Poem about memories of hearing an old
poet read in New York City,
A New Voice
Years ago in New York City, Ginsberg said
"it's time for a woman to become the voice
of poetry."
with balding head, he looked quite spry,
shorter, though, than I had imagined.
he read to a crowd of howling boys--women
had come to hear the giant, but the males
thrilled to the words "cock, love, and death."
he spoke of seeing his mother huddled in a subway station; old woman didn't even touch his heart--he dared not drop a quarter in her hand; the old wastrel mouthed the wods "I love you."
oh Ginsberg, you thought it was time for a new voice to speak up, but you didn't spread
your mother's gnarly words before you left this world.
time will soften your visage, but the image of the cock will always be your trademark.

Whaaaaaaa! A mystery unraveled here?
I would have never guessed that about Old Ginsberg...but, then again, I never had the dubious honor of hearing him in person, either. Perhaps that was fortunate for me, huh?
This is a potent message, Lisa, powerful words.
