(I sometimes can't believe that as a child I was such a little schemer. My kids aren't like this...... or are they........? Thanks, Mecca for lending me the word "shady")
Faking
taking
my medicine
was sometimes a little bit fun
like pretending
eating
an un-liked meal
'til it was "gone"
it was inventive
using napkins
to keep unwanted food
safe,
escapades like these
saved a boring childhood,
I'd eat everything else I
could get my little hands on
things like celery
and lettuce, as long
as the sneak was on
and unwrapping gifts
from under the tree
was so exciting
almost as fun
as re-wrapping them,
all the while my unsuspecting
parents who'd soon
figure out
my shady plans
pretended
not to
at least until
I'd grown just
a few more inches,
still, I was really
quite good
at being
very sly
one eye to look out, to watch for trouble
while one eye scanned
for my
latest endeavor.
Maybe I should have
perhaps been a detective,
ah, but then the joy
I'm afraid, would soon turn too objective
and I couldn't have that, no, no, no
enough in life's not fun
so instead I wiggle words
into shapes and sometimes
pretty good puns...
I miss those days
from my childhood
when I could fool anyone
now, I'm afraid
just a little fib
turns me red
as if from the sun.......

It is good to look back on childhood and analyze ourselves from a standpoint of then vs. now. Good insight Rose.
