Musing on the idea of the lives of the West Coast miners after their working life is done.
Slowly supping memories of mines Lobster pots now leaning at the bar Footy on Saturday, footy come Sunday Years measured in drooping jowls Left on the train – kids and coal Only God calls time gentlemen And removes the drip Trucks and new cars wash mud To gutters and paths For honest boots to tread Hiss of sea drawing breath on Stones unprotected from wind Weather and Unnatural forces flailing the coast Stay safe on the stool Rumble like waves Against rocks at Granity A periodic pounding of heart Against mind Despite soul Only God calls time gentlemen And removes the drip
