You sit, poised on a precipice between Heaven and Hell
knowing someday, eventually the ground will give way
and you’ll fall into the abyss, God’s name on your lips.
God who has forsaken you, not for your hidden lust
but for your gross, self righteous hypocrisy.
Dry Autumn leaves revolved in your soul
as years became your harsh taskmaster
and you despaired of, then accepted, living a lie forever.
Having none, giving, receiving no love, yet
so well you play the lying game, self congratulatory
proud of so many years spent in a cold bed.
Wild winter winds now howl at your door
and you seek to forget death’s advancing claims
with a trail of lies and hearts to play with,
covering your ruthless predatory hunger
with light conversation and sexual innuendo.
A gentleman you have never been, not in reality,
not when the sugared sea of deceit parts
exposing the riverbed of your lust and violence.
Live in your delusions, die in your deceit.
Enjoy your passing Autumn charade while the leaves
revolve frantically in your aging, dying heart.
Hope for a few more warm Autumn days
and women foolish enough to believe you
before you lie frozen beneath the righteous snow.
To live a life without love and full of violence and deceit has got to be the worst legacy of man/woman. It is so much easier to love since it brightens all aspects of one's life. Such a sad poem.
Dale is right, this is a powerful statement and I can almost picture this man sitting on a park bench with the leafs fluttering around and trying to convince some lady to come back to his place for hot cocoa and a "chat". Well done.
