*Come away, O human child: To the waters and the wild with a fairy, hand in hand, For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
William Butler Yeats*

Poem Artwork

Oh, Human Child

oh, precious, human child
your eyes twinkle with wonder
too soon they will fill with tears
learn to grasp fleeting joy firmly
and to make your own happiness
this is a world of weeping women
come away to the waters cool
and the forest wild, come away

anticipate Jesus and a heaven
let no one dissuade you from
firm belief in all the magical
if fairies exist, go find them
dance with them under full moon
in the depth of their woodland
never lose your heart-wonder
by believing unicorns aren't real

you are new life for dying earth
so come away, sweet child
to pretty poetry places
where rhymes climb upward
to spaces unknown, unseen
where rushing waterfalls sing
and flowers have been created
to pick and wear in your hair

the world is filled with
many things not beautiful
so be the beauty within it
let your laughter echo off
the walls of mankind's sorrow
too soon and so lamentably
you will learn about dark death
and the cleaving of spirits

but today you are bright, alive
so come away, oh, human child
to the wild places you create
bathe in the rippling streams
of God's love, embrace childhood
as a blessing of wandering wonder
the world is filled with many things
you don't yet need to understand

Everyone deserves a childhood that you describe. They also deserve the right to return to those wonderful times and thoughts when troubles become too great in their minds need a rest. So many authors like you provide them with endless stories of fairyland dreams that they can curl up in a good book with when times get tough.

This was quite the impressive write. The imagery is well noted in somber but beautiful tones.

Some beautiful imagery here, a sober tempo, and a message well revealed in this lovely poem. Well done.

This is a very beautiful (and meaningful) poem. It is in harmony with the way I have always felt about childhood. Also, the words of William Butler Yeats that you have chosen are perfectly in keeping with your theme. Love, peace, and blessings to you, Belle,

Regis. 🙏🌷🌳💚🌲
