Shadow Lover

We stand at the edge
one foot over one foot back
nothing happens yet
but it will in our own time
we wonder if they wonder.

Perhaps the hardest thing to understand about being human is why we are not all the same, why we do not all walk in lock step. Most people find it more comfortable to follow, safely following one foot after the other, never questioning, never wavering. The real mystery is that those lovers standing in the shadows, those not in lock stop, those that seem to march to the beat of their own drum, do they, like those, in step, do they wonder about us too.

I think it's human nature to wonder about what makes others tick. I like the original wording in this Tanka. Hugs:)

Well done thaT WRITER!! YOU CANT BEAT A DRUM!..LOL ALSO.. to find out the exact time..buy a drum and bang it hard in the alley. Someone will always lean out of a window and shout.."hey, who's banging a drum at Half four in the morning?"lol

the concept of existing as human, Silly Puddy, sends high voltage electrical surges through my brain -- what a depressing thought -- I walk in lock step only with my ideals and sensibilities(in sensibilities?) -- to follow, is to always have the same view -- a rhetorical question posed within the confines of your very interesting poem Dan -- you certainly penned this with great aplomb -- peace to you -- JMW

Wonderful concept! I learned very early one to make my own rules to live by or I would have never survived to adulthood. Why would anyone want to follow?? Being your own person is so much better...

I never learned the "tanka thing myself" Someday I should take a course in poetry forms. But you show positive here and I'm thinking lately that the younger people are ever more the conformists. It's as though you get marginalized the more these days for being different (I was thinking in music)...
