A short commentary on the direction our society has move towards-dlj

Photocopies
Dan Johnson
© 2008

Are we photocopies of our fathers?
Are we blurred images of our mothers?
Do we stand on our feet, copying, no one?

Photocopies that is what we are
Our blood runs in black, and blue and red,
Coursing grains of our off white bed of 8 ½ X 11

We pray to be originals
In this the grand old scheme.
One dream, one dreamer at a time,
Like sheep to the slaughter,
One sheet at a time, stacked as a ream,
Slides through this death machine,
Called a photocopier

Our hope, against all odds is that we avoid a paper jam.

Photocopies, that is what we are,

Dan Johnson

genetics I am regretful to say Dan, speak with great authority -- and we are everyone of us tied firmly to them -- but fate, 'tis another story me thinks -- peace and love my dear friend -- Jon Michael

This brings to mind that old 60's song, houses made of ticky tacky, and they all look just the same. Peter, Paul & Mary? Anyway this is a pretty grim assessment of what we are, not that I disagree mind you. And I must say this work is certainly original and I enjoyed it. Patrick

Dan - Our society has been heading this way for a long time, all of my life anyway. Like the humorous last line,

Our hope, against all odds is that we avoid a paper jam.

Very thought provoking Poem Dan. It's deeper than one might think if it's only read on one level. Excellent work. Kathy
