One Night in Clovis

1.
We met one day…long time ago
In a cantina, near Clovis, New Mexico.
The juke box sadly played
Patsy Cline’s
“I go out walking, after midnight”
2.
You were young and strong,
A cowboy, so you said,
I was on my way to Amarillo,
But ended up in your bed….and there
You wrapped me in your arms,
We loved each other
All…night…long.
3.
When I awoke, you were gone,
The note said mending fences
Sadly though, I could not move on
Hard as I tried,
So…
4.
I walked through raging storms,
No light, except for a thin slice of a lonely moon,
Patsy singing, I go out walking after midnight, playing in my head.
Crossed the rushing creek,
Up snow filled tree clad hills,
Down through the greening meadow,
Over rough and rambling sagebrush,
Scorched by the burning noon day sun.
Ascending high rocks,
Barely holding on,
Pressing on through slamming winds,
Proving only that I am
Driven by the lovely reminder of your sweet and delicious body,
Which is forever etched in the deepest parts of my heart and soul?
And I would do it all again.
Because I’m still waiting, in Clovis, New Mexico.
Write on my friend. You have the gift.
Crazy...Crazy for feelin' so lonely...
I love sinning that song!
Thanks for the beautiful poem Dan
and may there be another "One Night in Clovis"
