It felt a dream while they lasted,
our time-warped days,
when the world passed by-
pastel colours, the patina
of many shades
over a safe place and our own.
I took advantage
of those days and used
them like champagne,
overflowing with it, without
regrets or regards for later,
but wide-eyed, dewy-eyed,
with love caught in the thrall.

It was good while it lasted.
We used the last day,
went up to the mountains,
exhilarated, followed cloud flecks
clipping our expectations,
until the sun bore through in rays
and my eyes leaped far ahead
beyond the mist.

We flew home to the old world,
still buzzing and giddy from joy.
"I'm back" I said to the place
where hope is coiled up
like a snake asleep in a basket,
I started to empty all the bins,
as the loved-up clears out
before things turn stale.
