Life, and yes--Death;
Are but down to a flame,
The flame in my heart,
Which burns in your name,
Frigid, the winds;
Which blow in the night,
Cruel, the world;
Which extinguishes light.
Lay here beside me,
Kindle the fire,
The Night is so strong,
Yet so is desire.
Beautiful, the warmth;
Which melts ice in the heart,
Raging, the blaze;
And so soon it departs.
And so burns the fire,
Late into the night,
The flames last departed,
Silent wraiths taking flight,
Defiant, the ash;
Which glows brilliant red,
Defiant, are we;
Who embrace by its bed.
