The single leaf, so alone and afraid
Away from its tree for it has no aid
Flowing fiercely as the water pours down
My curiosity, I wonder, so why do I frown
I get my umbrella, and run through the storm
I follow the trail the leaf, holding its form
I dash through the puddle which looked like a bay
With lightning and thunder shining the way
So many turns as all journeys must end
I turn to the right and then around the bend
I smiled at the sight and my mine so at ease
I saw a million other leaves from that very same tree
I paused for a moment soaked through to the max
I took a deep breath and started to relax
It made me think of my own children and why we do part
That answer came to me like a shot in the dark
Watching that leaf the answer was so clear
They must live their own lives we can gather next year
I walk back home as the rain starts to glisten
It sad to be alone and your kids you are missing
Like that leaf, we travel alone
but remember, one day they will return home.
Be safe,
Karen
