If I could see you one more time
Or hold your hand one day
These guilty tears I cry for you
May stop and fade away

All the gamblin' and the drunken nights
While you sat and wiped your tears
It just didn't seem that long to me
But those nights spanned many years

I didn't see your loneliness then
And if I did, I know I didn't care
When you needed someone to comfort you
The truth is, I just wasn't there

I took our life for granted then
When my fairweather friends came first
Then you left, and later, so did they
Now I feel my life is cursed

I didn't know just what I really had
Till that day, when my heart did melt
But alone I sit, in my lonely chair
Now I know, just how you felt

I wish I could travel back in time
God I'd be a different man
But we only get one chance in life
Do the right thing friend, if you can
