For my uncle John who moved to Australia 40 years ago, never to return.

Now I left Belfast for Australia's shores
To seek to make my way
And through many years of hardship here
I've fought to make it pay

But the forty years I've struggled on
They've just flew in all too fast
And the biggest mistake I ever made
Was leaving my old Belfast

The Belfast weather may be rough
Sometimes its bitter cold
But the welcome in a Belfast smile
Is worth its weight in gold

Cause' when I took the ten pound ticket here
I was filled with grand ideas
But the pull I have for my Belfast town
It just fills my heart with tears

But my family they all live here now
And its here I must remain
So I'll raise a glass to my Belfast town
Till I cross her shores again

I'll think about my brothers and sisters there
Where I grew up as a lad
Then I'll sing a song to my old Belfast town
A song to my old mum and dad
