I won't forget

Bill Tate he was a fireman, when the war it first began
But then he joined the navy, and became a merchant man

He soon became an officer, on the deck he stood so bold
And the cuffs of his dark uniform, were emblazoned with bright gold

Bill would talk much of his travels, to his family way back home
Of Australia and South Africa, of Hong Kong and of Rome

But those days they are all gone now, of excitement and of chance
When Bill sailed the mighty oceans, this was a navy mans romance

Bill loved his two small children, and so he left the sea
But part of his soul, it still sails on, moving endlessly

But his uniforms wrapped away now, Its faded and its worn
And the shiny gold bands on the sleeves, they are colourless and torn

In 04 Bill died of cancer, and his loss was oh so sad
I just wish he was back here with me, you see, Bill was my loving dad
