The lone horseman

I died a very long time ago
When a Sheriff shot me in the back
I was rustling cattle on that dark rainy day
On a hill just passed dead man's track

But my debts had forced this life on me
Cause' till then I was as honest as could be
Then the banksmen came like thieves in the night
Took my farm away from me

I watched my wife grow weary and weak
My hungry kids in tattered clothes
I cursed the heavens and shook my fist
I was blaming God, I suppose

But God helps those who help themselves
So I know he was not to blame
I brought my downfall on my own sorry back
When I entered into this act of shame

So I roam this world of darkness
Unable to find the light
And if you don't want the same fate as I
Then you must do the things that's right

Be happy and honest in all your works
Steer clear from debt and crime
Cherish the precious years that are left
Cause' you all don't have very much time

Sage advice. Also hard to sleep at night when you're always looking over your shoulder. Good poem!

Took me to the old west of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. I enjoyed this.
