In The Safety Of The Shadows

A Shadow Child grows up to be a Shadow Woman, who finds safety in the shadows.

In the safety of the shadows is where I dwell,
I find solace there, I live with secrets, with no one to tell.
I never reach out or step into the light,
I like being invisible, always out of sight.
Deep in the shadows, where nothing touches me,
Where no one can find or cause pain, for I am nothing they can see.
The times I tried to step into the light, I got burned,
So I will reach out no more, for I have learned.
I was born to remain alone,
Within myself I have found a home.
Human contact has been fleeting and doesn't stay,
I don't let it bring me down, once it has gone away.
Some do gooders has told me,"Leave the gloom, you must!"
I know they are but a sigh of the wind, I am wounded and can't trust.
I am frozen with the fear of rejection,
Mistrust eats away at me like an infection.
So please don't suggest that I should move on,
For in the safety of the shadows, is where I belong.

The great talent of your words blessing us, I really like the last 4 lines.

Such a sad write...I can understand how one would come to feel this way, especially after being hurt, it is easier to linger within the shadows of safety than open their self up to the possibility of pain. A very thought provoking write indeed...I would say that the sun brings life to the lifeless by creating a thirst and hunger as well as a desire for life! Living things grow in the sun...great write indeed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

SC your words saddens me, I understand that some people may feel that they have to live in the shadows but believe me one day you will realize that you don't have to spend the rest of your life in the shadows.

Fear of rejection isn't as bad as to be rejected. Fears can be conquered, rejection tell us that perhaps it is laced with a pinch of repulsion toward us, and that...we can't conquer.
We only need to se from whom the rejection comes, and reject it consequently.

Living within your soul and mind as a safety net, for the outside world can be so painfully cruel. There is a time for healing and one day you will delight while basking in the sun.....

Be safe,

I am with you there in the shadows Sissy. We were forced here Stan. Circumstances were too horrible to leave us in the sun. Shadows are safe.

decided the hell with it,if it was going to kill me so be it,I was tired of living in fear...SC don't love in fear, don't be afraid to love and receive love ,it may hurt, but in the long run I think it's the right way,Life is a life long lesson, till the end, is my guess nice write Ms.SC come out in the sun and lets dance,I'll dance a slow waltz DJ can tango with ya, May i have the next dance please,

Indeed, there is safety in the shadows, but it, too, is also deceiving.
