This poem is written from a memory recall from my mother and sister, Kristina, talking about what she did as a child that signaled her having "Asperger's Syndrome" but no one knew what it was at that time because it had not been discovered yet in Medical Literature and Psychology textbooks.
The neighborhood kids and you get together to play "Horsey". Anna, You, Julie, Becky, Sylvia, Joyce, and Shelly all have their Barbie Dolls and their model horses.
You, Kristina, have your model horses, very particular ones, and one barbie Doll. You play AWAY from the crowd!
Mom still thought you were playing in the group. Little did she know. At times, she started to know you played ALONE but thought you were just being Creative~ (Asperger's was not even KNOWN BACK at this time!~)
We, as a family, laugh about it in the year 2004, but in 1977, it was NO laughing matter!!!!!!!
This is a real problem, Disease and Syndrome that needs to be addressed!
