How I took a razor to my shunt in 1993 while I was in Missouri working as a Computer Programmer. I was tired of going to Neurosurgeons, saying that I knew something was wrong with the shunt, and they would not touch me "with a 10-foot pole" because my neurosurgeon in Texas orginally put the shunt in my brain, not a Missouri doctor.
ANGER at Mom,
ANGER at MYSELF,
PAIN for my headaches,
PAIN for having
To LIVE
My LIFE!
In comes the *razor*,
Steady my hand,
And with one swipe,
I pull down HARD
on my head,
And start to bleed.
I feel a release of
All the PAIN yet I
am numb for I did
not feel any PAIN
when it happened!
I had my own dorm room,
so I cleaned up the
blood with a towel and
then realized CSF was leaking
from my shunt.
Three days later I had emergency surgery
as I was in a car accident and told them about the CSF from my brain.
Scared the beejeepers out of my neurosurgeon.
Later found out, IF I HAD NOT DONE THAT,
I would have DIED, for the tube was so much blocked!
Funny how life works, isn't it?

The body always tells you what it needs. Great write and awareness.
Becca How terrible for you! Sometimes we do things led by the spirit and are unaware of it, but it saves us in some way. That happened to you and shows just how much you are loved! Your courage makes you a winner, as George said!
You are winner. You are going to win your battles. Just keep looking up.

Becca...oh my gosh this just ripped me up....Becca I believe that our bodies tell us what it needs...and we do things sometimes and we dont know why we do them but they turn out to be just what we needed...I have a friend in the hospital now with heart arythmia that they cannot get to be right...and a nurse accidentally spilled his jug of ice water on him...and it shocked his heart to beat right...isnt that something? I do believe some of these things to be small miracles...I am glad you are ok...and ummmmm.....please dont do that again...an awesome sad poem....floria
