I go to the Doctor, for a broken ankle.
He prescribes Vicoden.
Oh, that WONDERFUL drug!
I take it for PAIN, Yet, I take more than prescribed.
How easy it is to do.
My mood changes quickly.
Irritable, yelling, angry and depressed.
It takes me YEARS to realize the effects
That this has been having on me and my family.
I now go to NA meetings and do not take painkillers anymore.
I am 5 months clean.
YEAH!
February 27th, 2002
I broke my ankle back in October of 1999. The doctor, giving me Vicoden was a cumulation of other drugs that I had gotten for my inoperable brainstem tumor that I had been fighting for over 10 years then. It took me years to realize what I had been doing to the family. I got addicted because of the tumor though, not because of the ankle. No one can blame me for the tumor.
Update: September 26th, 2003--I got addicted because of the pain I was enduring from the headaches AND my broken ankle. IT WAS MY CHOICE TO TAKE MORE PAIN PILLS THAN PRESCRIBED. I COULD HAVE TAKEN THE PRESCRIBED AMOUNT AND HAVE BEEN DONE WITH IT. I could have KEPT my Mother's and sisters TRUST but I did NOT. It was MY CHOICE.
I am refusing this now to an almost all degree. I have pain pills maybe once every other month at MOST! And that is for legitimate medical needs when needed! I try to take nothing at all but Aspirin or Aleve. I have tried to cut down on my daily medication also. I have taken out "Allegra and Nexium" from my pill containers. It is a start. I am on a lot of medication. I have reduced my Topamax by one pill to 4 a day on September 21st, 2003 and reduced my Carbatrol by one pill to 3 a day on August 25th, 2003. Those are my seizure and headache pills. I get horrible headaches and migraines as a result of the hydrocephalus and shunt and the old brainstem tumor/lesion which is now gone.
Read my short story about, "Being Disabled" and it shall tell you more.
Thanks guys for being so patient and understanding with me! I am learning too!

Becca,
I am very proud of you. It's hard to admit something like this. Me? Been there too. Keep on, keeping on, one day at a time, you know the drill. Wishing you my very best. Janet
