The Slaughter of Rhiannon

Horses - magnificient, noble - man's companions and friends through the millenia. They have carried us into battle, ploughed our fields, carried our children gently across the landscapes of human history. Their reward? Cruel, bloody slaughter. I am so ashamed of humans... please help to stop this evil...just Google Horse Slaughter and see what you can do in your part of the world...

I think this work is a bit clumsy, but I feel so strongly about this that I will not take the usual time for editing and improvement - so forgive the crudeness of my verse, and be alive to its message.

Thank you Jasmin, for bringing this horror to my attention.

Deep into frenzied flesh the savage knife doth tear

As frantic screams the flailing Lord of meadows lost

Wailing loud in bloodied, shrieking, frenzied fear

Betrayed by man who careless, trades his pain, his life for dross

Great-Heart Rhiannon, lightning footed Lord of dale and glen

Doomed to die that man may rend thy flesh in acts of greed

Snared within the bloody cage of slaughter

Most noble beast, that falls to the evil of man’s monetary creed

Fly Rhiannon! Hie to thy memories of days of moon and wind

Fly to the sanctuary of thy secret mind

Heed not the pain as evil cuts into thy spine

And cruelty spills thy blood divine

Proud Rhiannon, spirit of the midnight moon

Beloved Rhiannon

No blemish e’er thine honour mars

Soon shalt thou grace the wind between the stars

The slaughterer’s cord now binds him to his hooks

As twisting, screaming still in pain and fright

Noble Rhiannon’s tortured, twisted frame is hoisted high

And pitiless, the human slaughterer draws nigh

Run great heart, run!

Pound thy mighty hooves  in fire-cast joy amid the forest leaves

Fly Rhiannon fly!

Treachery tears and roars and howls through ruined earth and bleeding sky

A savage cut from brutal hands now ends thy noble life and deeds

And kills the friendship offered by thy noble kind

Thy blood a sacrifice to base, inhuman greed

A curse of karmic sinless blood, thy legacy to all mankind

A savage cut from brutal hands now ends thy noble life and deeds
And kills the friendship offered by thy noble kind

I truly believe that we modern day humans have become the most barbaric savages ever to walk this earth because we now kill purely for greed, not for needed food. And we don't seem to care one bit, who or what, we kill these days - even our very noble friend - the horse.

Keith,

I admire your passion for the horses. It is so hard to take my mind there and even imagine what is happening to these wonderful animals. I am so glad that you are a champion of their cause. May you find people's hearts open to their plight and may their pockets weigh them down with heaviness until they give so that the horses might live!

You have written a real eye opener and like you I hope and pray that this sensless slaughter with come to an end. So unjust, so cruel and hope many read your writing and see what has been going on.....

Be safe,
Karen

I've given to 'save the horses' causes out west; and like your poem man's greed is still seeking to profit by their slaughter. Shameless when there's so few wild horses to run free; but all horses have paid and pay for haveing served man. Such a noble beast for having to put up with our petty crap! Pretty dramatic poem for not having edited. Your quite a poet; your imagery and history is superb.

Keith, you truly are one of Gods most noble children, your noble spirit shines a bright star in the universe, and your noble words emit the light of Gods love and compassion, I write this while tears are streaming down my face, thanks a million, and I hope you find a way to enrich the rest of the world with your most meaningful and beautiful poem, you will be blessed in heaven for it. There is not one word you need to correct, not one! Love and Many Blessings my friend and thank you again! Jasmin Horst

How unfortunate that humanity has not the capability to see beyond the thought of slaugther and taking of life...there is so much to learn still and yet we are trapped within the cycle of cruelty to the animal Kingdom, even they have a part within this world and it is not to suffer at the hands of those whose only intention is greed...what an unfortunate scenario...

you bring a sad and unfortunate view of life yet it is up to us to seek to change and or change the world...

nice work, Keith...

Sad how we treat our animal friends; God help us! No wonder He doesn't bless us; we keep performing atrocities against our fellow man and our animals!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
