Skinned Knee

Dad wanted to teach me
Peddling now hard
Feeling so incredibly free

Learning to ride
Only at the age of seven
Very gratified inside

Although not too steady
Falling hard to the ground
I obviously was not ready

What a bloody mess
For sure I knew
This was some kind of cruel test

Feeling of helplessness
Pain suddenly attacked me
Feeling not in charge now
Of my own destiny

It was me to fully blame
I thought so then
What a darn, sad shame

An unexpected deep cut
Did not see it coming
Surely put me in a rut

Mama sure knew best
Putting medicine on
She said my knee had to rest

How painful and unfair
Riding and feeling good
This was too much to bear

Mama then said
Things can happen at any time
So try and use your own head
Eventually you will feel fine

In all aspects of life
Next time I know
To be very careful
And go cautiously slow

Once in a while
I look down at my knee
That dreadful scar
Stares right back at me

Remembering then
An unexpected twist of fate
Never saw it coming
Was full of sorrow and hate

As painful events
Happen so suddenly
I now try to be in charge
Of my own destiny

The "Steps in life" can stumble us at times, but can also teach us to watch more closely where we are going in future.
A nice write, Stacy!

For some reason Staci we can't go through life without a little pain so we best be prepaired for it. Thank you for sharing.

My knees still bear the scars from when I've wiped out on my bike or fallen; still fall now (not by choice). Oh, boy, do I know about skinned KNEES....

Excellent write, Staci; very well penned!

Staci,

We skin our knees many times in life and each scar becomes a lesson learned but if we never get on that bicycle again how shall we ever learn how to ride. Blessings Always, Paul.

Sometimes the most painful lessons learned are also the ones we remember the most and which safe us a lot more pain throughout our life times. This lesson seems to be one of those. Well done Staci
