The wind blows along the majestic shore,
surrendering resistance of long held barriers
It is the time for love to shine.
Dancing in the shadows of hidden treasures,
floating in the sea of repressed desires,
standing on the shore of ecstasy.
The lonely mermaid cries oceans of tears
that has filled the Atlantic all of these years.
Now beached without any prayers
Sunset in the distance,
twilight about to enter
this lost and lonely soul.
Tragic news has crossed her ears,
Bringing back all of her fears,
fueling the prophecy from long ago.
Ancient chants sounded with pain,
luring many tears into the rain.
A beautiful tragedy did occur
Now she is beached with no where to turn.
She shall remain until dawn's last breath
longing to be within the loving embrace of him.

As she struggles clawing at the wet sand
Desperately attempting to re-enter the ocean
The eastern horizon, was graying with speed
If caught till after sunrise,
She would dehydrate, and die
An old sailor now walks the beach,
Has, since his return from the Nam war
Where his Gunboat was torpedoed
Sole survivor, floating aimlessly
In raging waves, he's drowning
Going down for the third time
His whole life
Passed in review, before his eyes.
A blur in the water approached
Thought a shark was the last sight
He'd ever see, his life faded to black
Woke next morning to see
A beautiful woman, nursed him,
Back to life
On a huge bolder by the shore
Within a hidden Cove, they sat
He caressing
her hair with a sea shell comb
She to him sang a song
Mesmerizing him
For it was time let him go.
They had fallen deeply in love
A love forbidden by Poseidon
They kissed each other farewell
To a miraculous sunset,
Blessing their last day together
As she slowly slipped into the gentle swells
Leaving him with only a silent image
Of her golden glittering tail
Disappearing into the ocean
That was forty years ago.
Now on this frightful night
As he walks the beach, he sees
Movements where the surf meets the shore
A woman struggling he imagines
Upon nearing her, he sees a vision to behold
It was her, whom had saved his life
Way down the line, of his past miserable years
He tenderly embraces her, with recognition
She smiles, as she sighs her last breath.

This is a beautiful love story of the mermaid and the sailor. I went to watch the Manatees this past Sunday. Having read many stories of sea grog and drunken sailors and mermaids, I could see by the roll of a manatee and the beautiful tail cutting through the water...the myth that came by the grog, the sea mist and a sailors need.
Amber & William, what a fascinating writing...it is truly exceptional & the story lives on in my heart...you both have charmed the heck out of me with such beautiful scenery & a twist of love...I'd say absolutely great!!!
