VEILED

you are veiled to my eyes
and yet
not hidden from my heart

it recognizes a familiar beat
in the cadence you scatter on pages
your elegant word fingers reaching

parting the offending veil
just enough
to give me a glimpse of your truth

word fingers beckoning me
daring me
to look deeper into your soul

and if i risk becoming a voyeur
will you hide like a frightened child
from the piercing of my dark eyes?

or will you at last dare to become
an exhibitionist
dropping your veils one at a time

stripping away the mysteries
of your identity
exposing more than you had intended?
