CHRISTMAS ANGEL



on christmas eve i dreamed of her
standing just outside my open door
the black midnight sky a mysterious
background for her soft luminosity
clothed in a diaphanous white dress
sparkling with sprinkles of starlight


her long unbound tresses fell soft
highlighted by kisses of a jealous moon
a moon envious of my blessed state
of having such an angel at my door


last night i dreamed she whispered
those words my lips have been unable
to gift her with, yet she gives them
to me without any intention other than
to live that which she was created for
to love and to be loved through eternity


her eyes were doe-like with an innocence
possessed only by stunning, wild creatures
who do not fathom nor purpose malevolence
her eyes, warm springs of healing promise


i felt her hand upon my cheek, wiping away
frozen tears that have long glistened there
and her lips, oh sweet, sensual lips of flame
persuaded mine to dance again a dance of love
her perfume filled the night with bountifulness
like aroma of a holiday feast spread out before
a hungry man who has starved himself too long
