Just playing with words… with love…

Love overcomes vengeful emotions, Oppresses our malevolent fears, Vindicates many vibrant notions, Everlastingly mopping up tears. Love oft’ validates expectations Of opulently glorious life, Vying for virtuous affections Everlasting in to afterlife Love, oh, victorious emotion Offer opium to sufferers. Victims of vicious degradation Elevate to splendid enchanters. © P. J. Oszmann (2003) L… O… V… E… O… O… 3… 4… V… 2… V… 4… E… 2… 3… …E… Beginning with the above word diagram this was an exercise I set to myself to write a short poem about love to fit that pattern (spelling LOVE vertically, horizontally and diagonally) and to describe or define the emotion, with the last stanza addressed (Ode like) to Love. These were my own criteria: Three stanzas of four lines each, with four words and nine syllabi per line, first and third line and the second and fourth line in each stanza to rhyme. The first letters of each line in every stanza and the first letters in the a appropriate position according to diagram to spell LOVE. I only allowed flexibility in the last words in each stanza for the placement of the letter E.(Perhaps I should not have allowed that flexibility, but at the end I chickened out) I am not satisfied with the outcome!

Methinks you expect too much. Good poetry defies formulas and touches the soul. This was a good try. The rest is just solving a math probem or puzzle.
