Poem Artwork

Reflection

A single dew drop on a blade of grass;

reflecting a summer’s eve sky above.

Eternity stands still within the glass

fragile skin of dew. Inside a white dove.

                *****

The purpose of life

The only purpose in life is to live

and not to talk about love, but to give.

                *****

It’s human to err

The wise man said: “I think

It’s only human to err.”

Than added with a wink:

“But it’s unacceptable to Her.”

                *****

A thought's like butterfly…

A thought's like butterfly; flies away if not caught.

A sentence written down is like a captured thought.

A captured butterfly ends under a pinhead;

And a sentence written down is equally dead.

                *****

Carrier chasers…

They are charging ahead like a cyclone…

Who are they?  Ignorance and Arrogance.

Don't stop them!  Hot on their heels rushing on

To trip them up: Failure and Despondence.

                *****

Success.

If you're acting with well planned purpose

And the outcome turns out different,

You best consider looking real pompous

And call the result: "Accomplishment."

                *****

Teenagers.

I'm happy to praise the teens of today.

Love them fondly; love them very much…

Fried in breadcrumbs… maybe… or any way…

Just as long as I do not have to touch.

                *****

Humbleness.

I'd love to be humble; I certainly would.

I'd love to praise the "Great"; truly… if I could…

But "Greats" of today act abominably,

And to humble be… they would never let me…

                *****

Modesty.

I love modesty. It appeals to me.

Especially love the silent kind

That stands on the rooftop yelling at me,

Whilst showing all the world its bare behind.

                *****

Man on Earth

If Earth is a big ball, spinning and orbiting the Sun,

It explains why Man is confused and not having much fun;

He can't tell when he is erect or hanging upside down.

                *****

Life.

Life's a mystery, paradox, illusion…

You hope to live to know what's it all about.

So, you throw yourself into all the action,

But just as you get used to it… it runs out.

                *****

How many women?...

It takes just one woman to give a man life;

It may take several to take him to bed;

And how many of those will plunge in the knife

That will bleed him dry and will leave him stone dead?

My one mistake…

There's been only one mistake that influenced my life:

I was born… to experience happiness and strife…

My only consolation - though never been forewarn -

Others die of the same mistake; namely: they were born.

                *****

Disillusionment.

Disillusionment comes with inspection;

And especially with introspection.

                *****

Old age.

Well, I am old… worn out… past my prime…

But as I look around me; I am glad.

All I see around me is ugly crime…

Either my mind's gone, or the World's gone mad…

My epitaph.

Hear lies an old man. He had a poet's heart.

Just too bad his brain could not connect.

Hard as he tried, he never was too smart.

Let him lie; don't let him resurrect.

Nice gems. I'd string them all together in a book or something. But then, an idea, you said, once written down, is dead.

Peter! You've out done yourself! I am going to treasure these pearls forever! The only one I disagree with is the Epitaph, especially this line: "Hard as he tried, he never was too smart." Excuse me here? You are one of the smartest people I know!

You have a way to make words sing! I am so glad I track you, I look forward to seeing if you have something in my mailbox!
