Don't quite recall how it happened
the accident
But Ralphy my man friends wrote
from all around the world
Your Mom and Dad read you
all of the posts while you
were in a coma so close to death
Ralphy the lucid moon, the poet
How long and hard you fought death
Nearly a year or so and your friends
never forgot, none of us
And you beat the odds, you son of a bitch
and made it out alive
And the Lucid Moon found her life
You reviewed Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith
It was a miracle that none of the doctors could
believe but it was your fight, Ralphy, and you beat it
you beat the hand and the poems were there and
you made us all believe again that miracles could happen
So Dave wrote yesterday to tell me that you had died
and it just hit me so hard that you fought back all
of that time for life to have it snatched away from you.
I still have your e-mails in my box Ralphy. One of these days I'll reply. We have all the time in the world.
Moving and evocative in word and tone. My condolences, and yet, may I add, I sense Ralphy served his purpose on this earth well, bringing understanding to many. Extraordinary life it seems. ~~Nordette
