She asked about the ocean
Her breath was why I left
Her voice why I must return
Will the gulls recall the silk touch of
your hair?
Now that time has eased the pain
Will I hear your laughter rising over the
pounding breakers, see a memory taken that
I've tried with no avail to forget?
Last nights and moonlight; a final kiss by a kitchen door. And, No, I can never truly forget. I can never fully heal.
The waves listened that night
and held our vows sacredly
"I'll be there for you forever."
The ocean knew but stayed so darkly silent
Sometimes forever can be measured in mere hours. Some oceans will never seem the same.

Love the poem. A lot of feeling went into it and it touches the senses. Is Long Beach in reference to Long Beach, California? I grew up there and am curious.
