Retirement seemed close at hand
The end to toil for this man
Trusting that his monies safe
Just to learn a different fate

Victim to endless greed
Institutions raped his seeds
Corporate leaders sucked him in
As buy the analysts recommend

The market soaring out of site
Then falling fast dead in flight
A long term strategy seemed right
Two years later seems not too bright

So back to work this man he goes
How long this time know one knows
All he sees in endless days
Of laboring to make his way

Seems rest is not in the cards
Nor puttering around the yard
Just work until he’s sixty-five
Or seventy if he survives

And all the while the greed lives on
Seven Trillion dollars gone
Dot Coms led the fight
The fatal blow those interest hikes

Now the scandals lead the way
CEO’s turned renegades
With golden parachutes they bail
Some though might end up in jail

But that won’t help those who paid the price
Who trusted experts and their advice
Their 401ks are all but gone
They suffer yet did nothing wrong
