Poem Artwork

i told her that i loved him

though it didn't matter anymore

"There are things you can have,

and things you can't,"

she said

and i resented her honesty

in the face of my desire

yet another part of me

curled up with it and slept

resting with its beauty

this speaking of him

like a new dress in the fancy shop window,

the one you'll never be able to afford,

or as the sweet treat you can almost taste

but never really digest without consequences

oh, but he is far, far more than that-

he is delight in a bear trap clawing at me

he is instinct with fire turning inside my shuttered soul

he is passion that pushed me to fall and skin my knees

and though hearts can break pieces at a time

enough to throw into a fireplace for kindling

still we stood, hand in hand

oh, that i could forget all about him

with the ease of removing this silk kimono

put away between the lace camisoles and scented drawerliners

surely then i could walk away from it all with dignity

but i missed him-

i missed him so i slept in his absence itself

holding on to the corners of its vastness

letting go only to light the fire again

Once passion is flamed, it's difficult to release. Unique imagery to describe these raw emotions. Fantastic write!

The fire burned out and then renewed for loss is a hard pain, perhaps a thankless one not worth it, but can we help it?

Stunning capture of true emotions and feelings here Michelle, the beauty of love isn't always that we can physically have what we desire but that we can love without ever making a direct contact and sometimes in rare circumstances those are the memories we cherish the most.

Emotions once turned on, are hard to turn off again. Love denied is expressly hard to take, because love envelopes our soul. You have spoken of a yearning and anguish that only time can assuage. Beautifully done Michelle.

What words of mine will ever be worthy? None of course. You are a fine poet, Michelle. I have respected your talent from the start. Love and best wishes to you,

Love is a wonderous emotion as is this poem. It's true we can't have everything we want but if you love him, trust your gut my friend. That's where I find all my answers, its there just trust it. Lovely, emotional write. May you find the answers and find love too, Love, Bonnie

The hardest love is the love that is out of reach. It's like a cup of water that half empty instead of half full and you can't pick it up to drink but you are sooooo thirsty it hurts and you can't sleep at night for thirty days.
