Based on a painting by Janine Wesselmann

Here is a link to some of her artwork, though I don't see the one i wrote about on her page:

http://www.janinewesselmann.com/originals.aspx

The painting was of a red-headed woman sitting at a cafe table, lips pursed as if thinking, hand beneath her chin. Hope that helps some, lol!

hesitation

made her wait

by the table near the hall

excited for her upcoming date

with a stranger dark and tall

a sideways glance

across the room

lids downcast

to feign little care

yet still a wallflower waiting to bloom

in gardens tended through both grey and fair

an old romantic

is what she's been called

by all who've crossed her

on their way

but before she finds him

she's always stalled

much to her own and her friend's dismay

regrettably

no one comes again to meet

this lady with a heart as big as sky

she sheds a tear

for her beau's deceit

and wonders if it is she

who has told the lie

a lie again

to convince her mirror's reflection

that true love upon her heels does follow

but it is upon closer inspection

it's always a man's rejection

that makes her life

a bitter pill

to swallow

Well put. Very interesting perspective on this painting. Seems all too real to me as I know more than a few greying women who feel as though they have been left on the shelf of life, still waiting for the "right" man to come along. I've come lately to believe that if a woman makes herself interesting by educating herself and is upbeat and authentic she becomes a magnet for men who are also interesting and upbeat and authentic. Too many women still try to look youthful and demure and helpless. That particular sort of woman will attract a control freak disguised as a knight on a white horse. Love the poem. J'nia

Hi Michelle, This is a great write, although I don't know if it's a man's rejection or his deceit, but it should never make a woman's life a bitter pill to swallow. She's giving the man way too much power of her life... Great thoughts arise from such a great write! Thank you for sharing this...

Sadly beautiful, like the painting, I'm sure.

Powerfully imaged, so much so the scene unfolds before the reader's eyes - well done, Michelle. Nice reading you again!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

A beautiful story from the depths of the well of a romantic's heart. Waiting and romance seem to go hand in hand and only when the waiting ends in fullfillment is it ever worth the wait. Michelle you captured the spirit of someone who knows what she wants in love and won't settle for less...even if it means being hurt a time or two.

A great truth write sadly... May all of us come to know the completeness that's inside ourselves... the fullness of our heart's ability to manifest happiness within, so we never go without... and the courage to keep on giving ~ even if to a garden, despite apparent separation from others... indivisible is the root meaning of individual, we're not separate ultimately... deep down we know..
Great poem Dear Michelle!
Love, Suzie... happy Amber is on the mend!!

I love your description of artistic paintings that inspire you
Your words are the counter part, of the statement
"A picture is worth a thousand words"
To you I say, your words are worth a thousand paintings
Love & peace be with you

William
