they thought it never rained those days
streets were iced in solar silver rays
reddened suns primping on full parade
then mocking grey its weakened shade
bursting rockets red flowers bloomed
running down curved streets all afternoon
in muddy clumps upon their finished race
though tulips always lost with such disgrace
shops and cafes full of celestial bodies fair
sidewalks meet corners upon some silly dare
convergence swirls us both humans and horse
mingling the clashing worlds without recourse
these horses say silent prayers for cold showers
that come and go like lovers in Mediterranean hours
or for monks with no need for possessions stacked
heavy upon the soft spots of their long bare backs
sacre coeur gazes as summer comes- (oh, go again)
back on tiptoes and dark limbs is my sweltering friend
though birdsong and blushed cheeks praise your glow
we autumns hide amongst moons until we see you go
