Based on a painting of the same name by Will Barnet

angles meant alot in morning shadows

as did angels in flight no matter the time

(the parrot in my brother's hand and straight)

(wings and things outstretched surround)

balances unbroken in the size of squares

and handstands steady, long and strong

maybe it was her warm red clothes

or the flames that sparked from her hair

that gave her the blazing courage

to pull the cat's tail--

(the cat complained-- wouldn't you?)

(even the dog knew better than that)

the men were the ghosts of my life  (glowing)

but it was me who seemed to go unseen

an invisible girl always reaching between them

waving my hands and perfecting my light

before a father who told too many tall tales

about Egypt and automobiles and effects of acid rain

too much to be heard and to be said between them

too much to see there besides the like of me

Excellent penning here once again. I maintain that it takes a great deal of fortitude and courage to trade invisibility for solidity. You have done it. Bravo. Hugs, J'nia

life in the early years of an era where all children were to be seen and not heard -- girls or boys -- a time when fathers were the center of a family's universe in every way -- it isn't easn't being the middle of three boys with one sister -- I did not exist most of my childhood -- but I grew up fairly normal with no regrets of my childhood -- peace and love my dear friend -- Jon Michael

Lost in the middle of all that testosterone--you make the point well. It didn't keep you down, though.

Take care

So beautifully expressed Michelle...the images you paint capture heart soul but most of all the imagination of the reader. Your passion and your warmth could never be denied for when you write it glows like a candle on a dark night...I loved this one.

So endearing and one could see a portrait of many so delicately placed....

You always do these so well, Michelle. I especially like Three Chairs and this sequel...those wall flowers as girls sometimes grow up to be women of quite importance, artistic, creative types whose angle in the morning light seduces the wayward into her angelic lair and commands attention to be seen and heard...now your next poem would be fitting from a painting of eggshells, Michelle, or one done in tempura with egg whites, metaphors of not "walking on eggshells"...be well...

Love,
Sage

a beautiful complement to Three Chairs (i), Michelle. I love the way you talk very much about the unseen, inner landscapes whilst couching the poem very strongly again in a sense of time and place with strong characterisations. I can very much relate to this one, being someone who has ALWAYS inhabited invisible places with unseen people! :)) xx
