soaring summer sunsets suggesting more
more of the monotony of memory and air
its thick weight and lengthy drape of barely breathing
and the rummaging insects that crawl into every space
it's their space and it's ours, it's the world's
and we a matched pair with no need for drama
and its deadly spin attack of passions unfurled
a brash fire and longing unnecessary with honest love
a poet's curse to exaggerate the climb and fall of love
our wagging tongues spontaneous children flown
heralding the croaking of frogs in a Prince's clothing
such flash and sorrow more thrilling than peace
torn soles of feet from the diamond search and rescue
when fool's gold sleeps beneath in sparkling gowns
but it's all different out here with you, on the bayou
with the sun-drenched colors of a fiery dusk time
awakened souls not in need of the triviality of words
whether pretty or purple to describe how it is that
our long time love and the sunset's last afternoon breezes
bring a level to rocky land and a mere man down to his knees
