love as a refining process

why weren't there blisters

there should have been huge

liquid filled

globs of fire spoor

all that passion you ignited

hot lust

boiling anger

no moderation ever squatted

oh, sure, occasional moments

came blowing in

bringing frostbite, chilblains

brief, so brief

then the flames roared up again

where are the puckered

red, raw scars

from burning away the fat, the

extraneous

until all that was left

was a steely

core of love
