to rise
getting up and taking the day
not for anyone or anything else
but because it is the hour
to rise
face what lies in the distance
after the fog is gone
when the smoke began
to rise
overhead forming clouds
shading the sun
hiding the warmth that yearns
to rise
with determination
no running from
eyes focussed on what it means
to rise
up and take inventory
nothing for sure
except that you and I are going
to rise.
