for my dotter 'wasa' when she finds herself waking up a little past mid-life

Not young...not old

not fat...not thin

not discontent or restless

and yet,  not still crazy in love with him.

Where am I...has it been twenty years

and then there's being a grandparent...or not being one

could that be part of my fears?

Should I still wear red polish?

Is this skirt too short...my hair too long

for this no-where age I am?

Am I looking like my mother...

that happens...I've heard that it can.

He looks at me...I look at him...

not young,,,not old

not fat...not trim.

Could it be that he's floundering

in this same strange place

it seems i woke up in.

A person should do whatever it takes to make THEM feel good about themselves! To hell with what society deems correct for anyone of any age......I agree with Jerry, we're only going this way once! Live it up! Great write, Pat!

Your words did not just hit close to home, they landed where I sit. I can totally relate. Well written Pat.

I'll bet, in his eyes and his mind, you're still that same foxy chick that he dated that first time and if that’s the case, none of those other things matter all that much.

That said, I agree with Alyssa, You nailed it....

Oh my! I KNEW I'd see myself in your delightful writings sooner or later. That is all it took for me to finally figure out how to leave a comment. I'd like to add that there is so much wonder and beauty intertwined between these nagging questions of change. Being with 'him' and knowing him more than anyone is a real blessing. Also, along the way, resembling your Ma becomes an HONOR. You nailed it Dear Mother!

Absolutely he is, and both of you GET THE HELL OUT OF IT and put that red nail polish and lipstick on and wriggle it when you walk. The hell with being too old to do that. You are going to be too dead much longer than you are going to be too old.
