Upward in flight for no real reason
the air, sky, and wind as companions
The bird gathered strength and pulled
a lone voice with tepid stare
Then soared a strengthened Falcon
Feathered wings of prayer with more
over the earth, from mountain seam to creased ridges
He circled and spread his wings
circles and boxes of motion in
winds of hope and not despair
Mindful of life’s tragedies that bring me to my knees
to tell me what I am made of
a man of steel, wood, or shattered glass?
But I am truly blessed to know of my wife’s love
and a grateful nation
In wind, my heart is swept clean
Like a lone falcon in search of self
a great bird soaring high above
Viewed into a tiny dot
I looked up to renew my strength
in the midst of my weary, tearful pilgrimage
