I come to you in a dream in hopes that you will place this message upon your computer screen for all of our offspring and their offspring to see. Thank you this would mean so much to me.

This came to me in a dream one night and I woke up and wrote down as much of it as I could remember.

I come to you in a dream in hopes that you will place this message upon your computer screen for all of our offspring and their offspring to see.  Thank you this would mean so much to me.

THE TORCH HAS BEEN PASSED TO YOU

I come to you in your dream

In hopes that you will place

This message

Upon your computer screen

They came to our land

Like thieves in the night

With a the good book tucked

under their left arm

And a loaded gun in their right

They raped our women

And beat our men

Then plundered our land

But HIStory noted we were savage beasts

And also states he was the civilized man

Was this or was this not

Barbaric behavior?

Or was it okay

Because it was claimed

In the name of the savior?

I can still hear my brothers

and sisters cries

With shackles on their

Hands and feet

And tears in their eyes

As they were disseminated

To many a foreign land

And placed on auction blocks

And sold due to high demand

Sold in lands

Where the very thing

They did to us

If done to them

Would have been considered

Barbaric and unjust

Then came the day

That we were set free

With just the clothes on our backs

And no money

We were then living in a nation

With no education

Amongst a people that condemned

The melanin in our skin

But after we learned

To speak the same tongue

and united as one

Fought for our rights

And prayed every morning

We made it through the night

Now we have passed

The torch to your generation

We did the leg work

To keep the flame burning

Now the next step is up to you

To prevent our extinction

Beside Still Waters by Jill Eisnaugle

Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
