What image can I call to mind
To picture you, my love, my friend,
Who came into this life of mine
Eliminating years so blind
All flowing to an empty end?
I shall call you Anodyne!
For now, the fact is, I am bound
To search upon a different ground,
Whereon I may, in every season,
Find a pure and virgin reason
To go and speak, and seek and find,
That final glory of mankind.
