Seven centuries between us,
yet still your story seeks me out.
Legendary warrior, you hunt
me down, command my attention.

Marco, you have found me again.
Here in small part of the world I
live in... you, your white steed and your
treasured advice – come, come on in.

I glimpse your graceful gentleness,
gaze into dark Italian eyes
and know you have come to teach me
to wield Western weapons with care.

You sit down to tea – never mind
errand I thought was important.
Odd, that you, great adventurer,
settle me so, put me at ease.

You will share stories, fantastic,
true tales of travels to Far East.
Your heart is full. Your mind, alive.
You laugh and you love and you laugh.

I cry, cry at beautiful sound,
know now why you stormed the future.
You came to remind me: laughter
is only as far as a friend.

When I think I have no one, world
has left me alone, I’ll call out,
“Marco. Marco Polo,” and laugh,
knowing you'll pop up one day soon.
