I appreciate writing
with beginning, middle, end – but, please,
let me wander, skip around,
make occasional hypotheses.

Some prefer a simple tale;
give me parable or mystery
or mythic incantations
with some hidden meaning wand’ring free.

I circle every story,
examine complete perimeter,
explore contour, shape and form
before measuring diameter.

Once within a story’s grasp,
I surrender to its influence,
follow evolving patterns
of words to marvelous confluence

of feeling, thought and action.
Where concepts, images intertwine,
I’m bound to find opening
to whole worlds reflecting grand design.

As I investigate shape,
veritable whirlpool of emotion
surrounds with effervescence.
Immersed in magnificent ocean,

I am carried on word waves
into waters deep and unexplored.
Swimming inside a story,
it is impossible to be bored.
