In a mind
accustomed to swirling thought
only

            silence
            stretched spaces 
            a stillness signifying 
                        nothing special.

Such emptiness frightens me
reveals my naked vulnerability
need for another
who is not
here.

     There
     the world moves
     picking up its pace
     Cogent thoughts, conveyed confidently, go
     wireless, my slate wiped clean.

     Shadows seem to settle now
     sadness, remembrance of higher functioning.
     Laying down my head
     tears form, fall
     free.

Caught
caged, confined
intelligence and
cognitive ability: missing in action.
How to search for part of me?

                        Everything’s blank
            extraordinarily bare
            wall to wall 
            echoes

In a mind
that’s become a vacant room
empty.
