My people
pushed me from shore,
abandoned me to 
storm gods, unaware
at last they have set me free.

Back and forth,
I rock gently
on the open sea
in an ancient boat
shaped like a sliver of moon.

Starry skies
spill their secrets
and they comfort me.
Live or die, I know
I am where I have belonged.

Sleep takes me – 
I awaken
not alone but in
your arms, your boat tied
to mine, our bodies moving.

It matters
not who you are
but that you are there,
that after so long
someone looks into my eyes.

A rising
sun lights our skin
and tints it golden,
our warmth cooled by splash
from either side of the boat.

We speak hushed
professions of
love in languages
unshared, understood
nevertheless, and we sail.
