Damp Mother nature –
hold cold water,
gift of fallen rain from Father sky.

Take this pain, these tears
of salt we cry,
let time heal until we feel again.

Gather dark, dappled,
dying days, these
scattered cones and tattered leaves, windblown.

Hum a lullaby
in minor key;
hold our dreams through melancholy time.

Take us to winter’s
solitary
home, swaddled close in warm protection.

Mirror back for us
love’s reflection.
Rock us back and forth until we know

in self’s soul center:
we are cherished.
When illusion of death has perished,

breathe, breathe fresh spring air
into our world,
and let us, your children, celebrate

gift of your seasons,
breadth of reasons
we have to count blessings one by one.

I liked the flow of this poem, and what it had to say.

There is so much understated confidence in this profound and soulful write, Dawn. It is philosophical and yet also very "earthy" and rooted in the reality of deep understanding and empathy. I get the feeling that you welcome the autumn in particular - as a time of detox and of "drawing in the horns" in order to gather strength for the next burst of growth: the same as the natural world with which you identify and readily use as a metaphor. There is sadness here, but the recognition of the need for grief's passage and process, I think. These are just my gut-feelings and could be wildly wrong, but this has a serene calm and acceptance about it which I have enjoyed. TY Kate xx
