[Note: I'm working a holiday job with very long hours, so I don't have much time to comment except on weekends. But since I write poetry in my head all day, I'll keep posting. I'll be back on track after the first of the year. Happy holidays, and thanks for your support and encouragement. Dawn]
Bumping, bruising test of endurance – I picture us driving twin beat-up rattletraps, outdated, outmoded, outdone by life’s eternal, infernal highway of regret, so accustomed to the road rage age we forget to notice each other.
And then something happens, and it’s as if I see you for the first time and you see me as I really am. Simultaneously we shift to a higher gear.
Cruising carefree, comfortably – I picture us driving twin compact cars, economical but high-performing, top of their class, and we trade smiles and thoughts behind the smiles from side-by-side lanes, moving slowly but with momentum together.
And then something happens, and it’s as if I see you for the first time and you see me as I really am. Simultaneously we shift to a higher gear.
Falling fast, not down but forward – I picture us driving twin Jaguar XJ220s, racing green, shooting the straightaway like stars, flash of speed and power, all thrust and throttle.
And then something happens, and it’s as if I see you for the first time and you see me as I really am. Simultaneously we shift to a higher gear.
Circling in elliptical cycles – I picture us driving twin souped-up stock cars, different numbers, different colors, what’s inside one and same. Exhilarated, we take the turns, edging each other slightly, playfully, all energy and excitement, revving our engines at the finish.
And then something happens, and it’s as if I see you for the first time and you see me as I really am. Simultaneously we shift to a higher gear.
Soaring so smoothly we forget who we are and where we are – I picture us driving twin time machines, caught up by a wondrous wind, on a magic carpet ride through dreams long held and those unimagined. We glide effortlessly, transported into realms of revelation and back again.
And then something happens, and it’s as if I see you for the first time and you see me as I really am. Simultaneously we shift to a higher gear.
Collapsing, unfolding, we are like two stars converging into a single light and then exploding into a supernova – I picture us driving twin galactic symphonies of light to kaleidoscopic effect, re-enacting a performance of perfect peace, contributing to a universal shift into love.
I would've switched from stock cars to twin space shuttles and THEN time machines, but I guess time machines are close enough. Have yourself some happy holidays and a Merry Christmas.
