God chose to walk the human way,
to bear the load we all must bear.
Ridiculed by strangers, betrayed
by a friend and mocked while dying.

Relinquishing for a moment
in time all power and glory
so we might soon taste of heaven.
Jesus wept. Immanuel, God

with us, born in a feeding trough,
grew to touch the untouchables,
healing those society deemed
beyond hope. Some called him crazy;

others saw him as a threat. Few
realized who it was that walked
with them. Today, do our hearts not
burn within us? Do we still not

recognize the Holy Other
in our midst. Tonight, as you break
bread and pour the wine, welcome now
Christ, the child, and God, the man, who

chooses to walk along your way.
