a lousy mentor,
but the only one I had.

until you canned me, kicked me.

all integrity
swept out with good intentions.

You were
a brother in Christ
who shunned me like a devil.

You were
the silent witness
who stood by and watched me hang.

You were
the best friend of all
and one I never really had.

You are
the great pretender,
keeping up appearances.

You are
self-proclaimed leader,
example to the wand’ring.

You are
all fidelity
except when it comes to truth.

You are
a pilgrim walking
toward the only light you know.

You are
fool following
crumbs in fearful forest dark.

You are
certain of your rules,
rigid system of belief.

You are
oblivious and forget
to practice what you preach.

You are
torn, conflicted by
what is, what you think should be.

You are
doing what you can
to measure up to standard.

You are
a man, not a god;
you must turn, forgive yourself.
