deep into a very dark
winter night
two stars
frozen snow touches
as ice within your breath
unheard echoes
in drift
across an open field
white / black
surrealistic refrain
a left hand glove left
a long highway back
a boy needs to believe
in the man
before he becomes lost
on the other side
and always
just one more road
one more ride
The atmosphere of this poem brings the cold of winter nights into focus quite clearly. Easy to imagine cold winter roads when the cars are few and real fears of frostbite loom. I've been out in deep cold and have actually had frostbite, so this is pretty easy to relate to. Like life some things never end. So this seems to strike a chord with me. Very readable and gripping William. Bob
1971 I was hitch-hiking at 2:00AM in the middle of winter on an empty road surrounded by open snow covered fields. almost going nowhere. and noticing I lost a glove on my thumb hand. a man is in drift when that alone.
This one has a very surrealistic tone to it… Full of opposites and innuendo. Still, I didn't understand. But it may be some remembrances of things gone bad.
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
