if you can't guess, my country is the united states.
i walk across these death fields
where poetry once dreamed
freedom
words
now as weeds rise
from the vapors
adrift within
the eyes of blind men
how easy the ginsberg ramble
lost
deep within dylan's
frozen lips
am i lost
or is
this country of ever green billboards
mirrors of empty hope
crowds of
beat hipsters in drag
calling out to their
empty space in history
and getting paid
for their delusions unfurled
onto advertisement tinted pages
how
upon these empty kerouac roads
i walk still...
Drag queens are the new hipsters now that they can get married. But then, Elton John has always been hip, if only a short time after those greats you mention, not to mention Little Richard, Boy George and George Michael… So I won't.
Poignant and nostalgic. In NYC the new year is welcomed by lowering a large LED spheroid, in Atlanta a large peach, in NC a possum, and in Key West a drag queen in a large speckled shoe. Delusions unfurled.
The songs and art in this book are about our collective emergence after the pandemic and trauma of the last few years - comprised of 5 collections: World as Refuge, Where We Live, In Our Hands, Rhythms of Change and What We See & Sow.
